Look fergie is a great gaffer, lippi is even class. Look at arsene, he’s head mufti at his ulooms even wen the fans turned on him, like seth said barca has laid to rest okes that were the greatest footballers. Look at rivaldo and ronaldinho, fergie in 99 with fledglings wen I myself said the mancs are finished made them probably the best Manc team ever, the treble team

Pep did a masterclass at Barca. When he came in, Rijkaard had lost the dressing room because of factions, egos and favouritism (especially Ronaldinho who never used to pitch up for training). He brought the team together, earned their respect and created something special. Not anyone can do that. He was intelligent enough to realise that coming in as a young coach (from the reserve team), he had to build a rapport with the players as an older brother type. It worked. Unfortunately, it’s time for change. Now older, at his next job he won’t follow the same approach, so you’ll see a different side to him. He’s done a fabulous job at Barca – you can’t give him credit for the tiki taki style but you have to give credit for managing the players, bringing through the youngsters, creating a winning mentality and most of all wining in the right way – Anti-Mourinho

He has done wonders with barca but he clearly did not hav a 4ward plan with xavi & innesta @ their autumn gr8 managers rebuild like fergie cantona & hughes, the fledglings; ronaldo & rooney & post ronaldo; arsen had 2 or 3 diff wining teams; can’t believe he panicked as much being 1 goal down 2 a 10 man team hasn’t got the emotional quotient of gr8 managers

Personally I find the criticism of Barca against Chelsea ridiculous. They didn’t have a Plan B, they didn’t … blah blah blah. Are you going to judge them over 1 bad game? Anyway, they should take it as a compliment to how good they are. Doubters. WTF? You can doubt Fergie for only doing it at 1 mega club (United, exclude Aberdeen and Scotland). Pep will go somewhere else and be a huge success

Based on barcas shock exit, can pep be blamed, surely the gods kept him at bay, barca won’t change they style. Tactically I’m sure he said attack, the ball just didn’t want to go in against chelsea.the gods denied pep and as the guys mentioned, a divine prayer was answered

Gr8 managers achieve a goodness of fit; achieve an alignment of their goals the clubs goals and the players goals; and do a gr8 deal of 4ward planning..pep failed on the latter; let’s c if pep can achieve the former elsewhere…

If funny how Chelsea are applauded for ‘parking the bus’ but when small teams in the EPL do that against our teams than we complain. United got schooled by Barca in 2 CL finals. But better to lose and play the game the right way then play in a pathetic negative way (27% possession). Chelsea may be in the final but we know the best team is in not in the final.

Aadil great point u made bout losing the dressing room, that mohabbet is a quality by great gaffers, fergie for one, AVB lost it in the dressing room, he was badly exposed. It takes a great gaffer to hold big heads and stars in unison, a great manager can be defined by results achieved thereafter. Take madrid so manny gaffers looking after great players but couldn’t keep the house in order

its a tie sir alex did not achieve 6 titles in 1 season he was also not that successful in europe; head 2 head utd failed against barca; but ito managerial principals saf surpasses them all he will go down as a managerial icon he had no problem getting rid of stars that were outliers on his goodness of fit curve

?@ Thirusha…wat a load of bollocks..as Aadil said this is a man who took a decent Barca side..got rid of the negative factors and players who thought they wre above repraoch (ronnie an eto comes to mind) …started building bridges and relationships with the players and then started infulencing their style of play with wat he wanted…no other team has played such liquid and aesthetically pleasing footie..i mean no one even came close..here is a team that totaly dominates posession against a team with the calibre of player of Ronaldo , alonso, Benzima , kaka etc…u accuse the man of not being a 4 forward thinker..it’s only because of his progressive thinking barca are the club they are now..@ choppies..you wana do pro rata dude…here’s one ..fergie 20 odd yrs in charge and 2 big 1’s …pepe 4 yrs in charge an 2 big 1’s…enuf said

For me pep was magical at barca. No doubt, I used to just marvel and watch the machine at work. I now wanna see a barca without pep and pep at a rival club. Its become such now that no matter how great u are and will be, the critics, media and press wait for you to make one mistake. Lippi won scudetto ,europe and world cup, as a juve and italy man, I always admired him as a gaffer. And I’m blatantly biased

for me there will be 3 great men..hate to say it but fergie has to be ranked right up there with what he did @ utd…took a club who had players with a penchant for the bottle and turned them into the best team domestically for the past 20 yrs…then it has to be shankly who took a 2nd division outfit , put them back into the 1st divsion and took them to a european final..lastly it has to be paisley..who won everything in his short stint @ pool.

Aadil Lakhi Brian Clough, I wouldn’t say he was the best in the world but he certainly was in the top 1. Legend

Madrid treated Del Bosque like dirt. He won the CL with the Galacticos but also before that – the team with Raul, Hierro, Morientes. Add to that a WC title and perhaps he deserves a mention with the greats. Most unappreciated manager of our era?

It’s a pity Pep quit after his first season of failure. It would’ve been interesting to see how he reacted to this challenge. How someone responds to failure is usually a good measure of greatness.
Even though his record Is impressive it’s too early to call him great. He’s not responsible for the Barca style of play and he’s been average in the transfer market but is a superb motivator and man manager. I’m sure he’ll find himself in another top job after his sabbatical and our questions or doubts will be answered.

Let me Reitarate and read properly
    How do you pity this:
    1) Pep signs a year to year contract
    2) Pep won 6 titles in one year
    3) pro rata his success rate and he k.os all the great managers and possibly no one can compete
    4) Where credit is due its due…the man did wonders
    5) Read Azhar and Mems points
    6) Personally I get the feeling that this is a ego saga of who is better Fergie or Pep.
    7) Face the reality the man didn have to take 25 years to achieve his ambitions
    8) Lastly we all knew he was going to leave along time ago
    9) I think u true Pep Fan:) say it u think he is hot and a powerful man 🙂

?1. You can’t prorata success, football is not a mathematical equation so winning 13 titles in 4 years does not guarantee you’ll win 26 in 8 years or 39 in 12 years. As we all have evidenced football success is usually in cycles, it’s almost unheard of that teams dominate for longer than 5 years in any competition. 2. Amongst the 6 titles he won in a year is the Supercopa where the league winners play the Copa del Rey winners which i believe in the EPL is called the Community Shield. 3. Pep signs a rolling contract but previously extended his contract when Barca were successful, it’s his 1st season of failure and he’s quit. Where’s the determination and bottle to fight back and win what he’s won so regularly. I’m not denying the quality of the man or what he’s achieved I’m disappointed he’s quit after 1 season of failure and not willing to fight back. I’m a United fan so I’ll admit that Fergie ranks up there when it comes to great managers but the merits of mangers mentioned above – Shankly, Paisley, Lippi, Del Bosque, Clough – cannot be ignored. I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the merits of the Legendary Ariggo Sacchi and his phenomenal Milan team of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Who will ever forget their demolition of Cruyf’s Barca dream team in the European Cup final.

I hear you but I differ in opinion
1)The pro rata is to show how fast he achieved his ambitions, its a comparison..can’t we compare time frame of success based on the present?
2)Irrespective He took 6 of the best and that’s all that counts, how many has taken 6 at one go? That’s incredible, let’s see some else with the same players do that!
3)The man was going to leave Barca before they dropped out of the races.
I understand your disapointment that he has left..and I feel the same..he had no intentions of staying from a while back.
The diff is I don’t see it as failure.its called soccer and the mans personal decisions which should be respected

The next big club to sack their gaffer will shortlist pep. I wonder if jose will stay. At one stage there was a golden era of gaffers, the toppie, lippi, hidsveld, del bosque. When gaffers like pep, sir alex, guys that have won massive on the big stage leave. The club staggers, unless u replace like for like. But ya choppy as a football fan u sit back and admire what these owes have done to clubs and the game. They are the characters that make it exciting
