EURO 2012-Round 2 Concludes

You know the saying time flies when you having Fun. In the blink of an eye round 2 of the Euros are completed and for me as an Azurri supporter I found myself taking Gaviscon as the Croatians equalised. Guess its what happend when you reach your mid thirties. More on that later.

In Group A the Russians and the Poles drew while the Czechs beat the Grreks 2-1. As it stands the Russians and the Poles seem sure to qualify. I wouldnt mind that as they were the pick of the Group A for me.

In Group B the big game was between the Dutch and the Germans. It was massive. Somehow for me the Dutch who are always touted as favourites seemed to have a missing element. There were talks of rifts and low morale in the camp. Nothing new when the Dutch arrive for a major competition. And the Dutc ran into a fired up Mario Gomez who put them 2 up. It was curtains for Holland. The Germans were solid and perhaps for me still retain the favourites tag to be crowned champions at the end. There squad is the perfect blend. Despite RVP Scoring late in the game the Dutch lost again. It wasnt over them. After Portugal grabbed a late winner against Denmark it was all down to Round 3. The Portuguese were lucky and many of my Portuguese fans were slamming Ronaldo for not showing up.

Whos the real Super Mario
The Danes were unlucky after they fought back

In group C well Italy drew against Croatia. More on that in my Forza Azurri post. The evening match saw Spain hammer Ireland and well I dont have to tell you about Spain. At 11 pm I tweeted “Arnt all the women in bed at this hour” This was in repsonse to BB na dfacebook and twitter statuses by my female friends about Spain and Fernando Torres.

El Nino arrived in Poland and Ukraine

In Group D after El Nino arrived France and Ukraine was interupted by a massive Thunder Storm. Play was suspended and the French came out better and Stronger as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over the Ukraine.

The French did the business in Ukraine

The evening match between Sweden and England was a cracker. I have a soft spot for England obviously. After the Azurri they are my second team. The Swedes are always tough and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was dangerous. Everytime he got the ball you felt something was happening.

England though took the lead trough Andy Carrol. A goal that was made in Liverpool. A fantastic Gerard cross that was met by a bullet header from Carrol. England went into the break 1-0. In the second half I couldnt believe it when Veteran Melberg put the Swedes 2-1  up. Big Shit I told the three Lions. England when to sleep and Sweden punished them. I thought ok thats it for England.

Then an inspired sub saw Theo Walcott introduced. He equalised with a fizzer and then skinned two Swedish defenders for Wellbeck to skilfully heel it home. 3-2 England and it was great to see the passion on the bench from guys like Gary Neville and Co.

And hearing the English bands and songs echoeing in the stands you knew this was a magical European night. Now all they have to do is draw against Ukraine. Should be a breeze
