The Poles opened up Euro 2012 against former Champions Greece

I couldnt wait for the start of Euro 2012. We havent been deprived of great football this season and after the domestic campaigns there was a sense of something missing. The start of Euro 2012 means its international football again and the stakes are high. After a spectecular opening ceremony the home crowd backed Poland against an unfancied Greece. The Poles took the lead only for the Greeks to equalised and then in dramatic fashion Poland were reduced to ten men when keeper Scezny was shown red. The Poles saved a penalty and drew the game 1-1.A great start to Euro 2012. In the night game in Group A the Russians ran riot against the Czech Republic thumping them 4-1. It was a solid Russian Display. Day one of the Euros were over.

On Saturday the cold front hit Johannesburg and no better place to sit in front of the TV and have Akals Fish and Chips. In Group C, Italy and Spain drew 1-1 but more about that in my Forza Azurri Post. In the evening game the Croatians beat Ireland 3-1.

In Group D it was the mouthwatering Clash between France and England. The Three Lions Azee and the Guvee were nervous and in correspondence. I couldnt watch the game as my dad got stuck on the Golden highway. Peak hour in the cold..Eish. I just got home and seen the highlights. Lescott and Nasri. England looked decent. Perhaps not too attacking. From feedback from the lads I thought Wellback and the Ox were impressive. Roy gave the Arsenal youngster a start.Pergaps what was baffling to me was the subsititution and Jordan Henderson brought on. Comon Roy,Comon. But well done to Stevie G and his men and if they get three points against hosts Ukraine England could be on their way.

In the last match of Group D Andrei Shevchenko rolled back the years and had the host nation rumbling as he scored a brace to give Ukraine a 2-1 against Sweden cancelling out Zlatan Ibrahimovics opener. Round 1 concluded in the Euros and it was full of action.
