DAY 29-31-THE BUILD UP TO THE FINAL
On thursday morning myself,Moe,Hoosain and Faaiz went to Wimpy Queen Street and had the traditional send off meal. Its become tradition everytime we leave Durban. Moe and Faaiz drove back and muself and Hoosain were due to fly in the evening.
When Zak took us to the airport I really thought we were gonna miss our flight. But I witnessed some mesmerising driving from the lad. He took us there in time and it so happened our flight was delayed. All worked out in the end.We caught our flight and had a good nights rest.
On Friday Zak and his members arrived in JHB and shacked up by me. He was a Dutch Fan so at night we met Speedy from London and found the Dutch at the Hilton in Rosebank. Zak was happy
On Saturday All of us went to Sandton Square and it was off the hook. I took my trophy and well you know the effect off the trophy
It was here I met my Dutch friends.I hope they reading this. They borrowed my trophy and were creating mayhem. Thanks guys for a memmorable time
My Dutch friends were three friends and their Dad. They made the trip from Amsterdam. They told me to hang out with them. They said to me you need to be more Orange and gave me a pair of sunglasses and a Scarf. Gave me a makeover and we were having Fun. Just then the Oranje band came through and the stormed the ESPN broadcast centre. Sandton was Orange and I said I will support the Dutch in the Final
DUTCH FANS IN SANDTON SQUARE PRE FINALS DAY
My Dutch buddies said that they needed a lift to melrose Arch. We obliged. I said Id meet them at 7.30. Sandton was crawling with famous footballers and celebs. Banjo met Sharukh Khan and while I was walking this gentleman passed me. I said “Fernando, Best defensive display I seen you and Helguera played to thwart Del Piero and Inzaghi in that Champions League Final. He smiled and posed for a photo
At 7:30 I loaded the guys up in my open top car and we set off to Melrose Arch. They were making me sing the National Anthem of the Dutch. I phoned Moe and Faaiz and we had fun in Melrose Arch. We met the flying Dutchmen because of our Dutch Contacts and Oh it was superb. The whole Vibe as we watched Germany vs Uruguay on the Big Screen
We partied on into the night and as midnight approached it was the day of the World Cup Final. I couldnt believe 32 days had flown by and on Monday morning South Africa would finally rest after this great footballing spectacle. How we slept and endured the cold on this night….Ay thats a diary on its own……..
