Port Elizabeth is known as “The Friendly City” and is one of the 3 Host Cities that are on the coast. Port Elizabeth is also the motor industry capital of South Africa. Recently a massive harbour was built in PE making at an extremely busy city.

The Beachfront complex known as “The Boardwalk” where there are many restaurants, shopping, cinemas, coffee shops as well as a casino.

Another great attraction of PE is obviously its Long Beaches and the Warm Indian Ocean Waters. Between June & December it is whale-watching season and many Southern Tight and Humpback whales can be seen from the shore. PE has a wide variety of Beach Activities such as sailing, surfing & diving. Also on the Beach is an Aquarium with a daily Dolphin show.

Another major attraction to PE is its natural wildlife parks where the Big 5 can be seen. The 5 star game parks in Port Elizabeth include Kwantu Game Reserve which is muslim owned and serves halaal meals as well as has prayer facilities. Another Star Reserve is the Shamwari Game Reserve which has hosted famous guests such as Tiger Woods and Elton John.

The city of Port Elizabeth was originally a host city for the FIFA Confederations Cup but due to concerns of the city and stadium not being ready on time it was changed. Port Elizabeth will play host to 5 Group Games, 1 Round of 16 Game, 1 Quarterfinal as well as the 3rd Place Playoff at the FIFA 2010 World Cup. A total of 8 Games makes Port Elizabeth 1 of the main host cities in terms of number of games hosted at the World Cup.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is currently being upgraded to have a capacity of 48 000 Spectators. The project for the stadium is about 1.1 Billion Rands. This will be the first World Class Stadium in the entire Eastern Cape Region. It is one of 5 New stadiums being built for the 2010 World Cup.

The main venue targeted for the FIFA Fan Park in Nelson Mandela Bay is at Kings Beach on the Beach Front. The site is the most conveniently located to hotels and other recreational facilities as well as having Parking Facilities. Other Public viewing areas for Port Elizabeth are also being targeted.

The 3 Main Park & Ride Sites for Nelson Mandel Bay Host City are located at Kings Beach (1200 Bays) St George’s Park (1900 Bays) and Greenacres (600 Bays).

The proposed Budget for all Transport Projects for Port Elizabeth is just over 1 Billion Rands. The major projects included for Nelson Mandela Bay include:
Development of Bus Rapid Transport System
Development of Bus Rapid Transport Stations
Modal Interchanges of which the major projects include CBD Modal Interchange, Motherwell Modal Interchange as well as Cleary Park & Korsten and also transfer of spectators from Airport to Fan Park & Stadiums
Road Works & Bridges of which of which the major improvements include Allistar Miller Airport Route, Addo Pedestrian Bridge, Grahamstown Road
Traffic Operations which include CCTV & bus Prioritization
Public Transport Operations which include purchase of New Buses and Fare Systems Full
Below is a brief outline of the Major 2010 Sites for the host city of Nelson Mandela Bay/Port Elizabeth.

The majority of the accommodation in Nelson Mandela Bay is concentrated with 5-10 kms from the city centre and includes hotels, lodges, guest houses and resorts. The majority of accommodation in Port Elizabeth is concentrated on the Beach Front. PE will also be utilizing their neighbouring areas for accommodation including Jeffrey’s Bay, St Francis & Humansdorp being the closest. Other cities providing that are close or less than 150 kms include Grahamstown & Addo.
